Project responds to Rail BalticaRail Baltica Is a rail infrastructure project intended to integrate the Baltic states in the European rail network, replacing the Russian gauge with a standard more commonly used in the West allowing for direct train travel. which then aimed to redevelop market nearby the central train station in Riga. Adjacent to the main architecture of the market is spread a group of brown kiosks built around the turn of millennium. Their permit of use expired in 2006. New masterplan drew them obsolete, demolished. I found the still functioning economy, while mostly illegal, fascinating and worthy of remembering/preserving. Kiosks were demolished in the winter of 2020 leaving visible footprints from the satellite.

Intervention
Cinder block walls are raised around every footprint, inverting the surroundings. Alleyways become solids, kiosks - voids. Perspective of the salesperson becomes available as a public space. Walls gradually lower towards the middle creating a focal point. New pavilion houses the old economy but now legally.
