Building is a very lengthy method of placing materials in acoherent whole. It is a play of
sorts which follows
structural rules of a particular physical situation. By partaking in a physicality of the construction process, a state of unlimited potentiality of form is revealed. Built object is open for interpretation at any stage of its construction long before coming into full effect of its designated program, in other words, goal of its erection, thus becoming a machine for living. Yet what precedes the becoming of architecture, is a process of negotiation. During which the potentiality of material undergoes a struggle between its desire and designation.

A balcony I lived in at that moment didn’t have an ashtray. It was very windy, the one before blew off. There was a railing, I could mount an ashtray on it. Ashtray should have had a washable vessel. I wanted to make a steel bowl, but because I didnt have the right tools I switched to slip-cast- ing. At first I’d make bowls with with a flate base, but they felt wrong, the vessel didnt need a base to stand on if its mounted. It lost its stability. I needed to hold it somehow and I thought to bolt it down. But ceramics really are not some- thing you want to put pressure on especcialy not with steel hardware, it i’d crack. It needed to be carried gently. So the bolt puts in an array a set of fingers gently carrying the earthenware vessel that if removed can be washed.
